In the middle of the English Channel sit Jersey, Guernsey and Sark, offering a fascinating mix of British and French. The climate is mild and the hiking takes you through a string of landscapes that once inspired the impressionists. Here you encounter golden sandy beaches and high cliffs, hidden valleys and forests, all crossed by quiet paths. History has shaped each island to have its own character. During World War II, these were the only British islands that were occupied, and the museums tell of the courage of the islanders – who still govern their islands themselves today.

You arrive in Jersey, the largest and southernmost of the Channel Islands. In the capital St Helier, you can begin exploring the city's attractions – including the historic quarters that bear traces from the Reformation. Here you'll also find the Maritime Museum and Occupation Tapestry Gallery which provide deeper insight into the island's history.
This trip is graded as easy to moderate. The paths consist of a mix of trails, gravel roads and quiet country roads. On Jersey there are a full 70 km of so-called green lanes, where the maximum speed for cars is 25 km/h and pedestrians always have right of way. On Sark motor vehicles are completely prohibited and on Guernsey you walk along the beautiful coastal path. The trip suits hikers with normal fitness.
During the trip you stay at a mix of small hotels, inns and guesthouses with good standards and personal character. On Jersey you can wake up by the sea in St Helier or stay in lush gardens just outside the city. In St Aubin there are charming inns by the harbor and hotels with terraces where the view over the bay is magical. On Guernsey, centrally located hotels await in St Peter Port, many with cozy courtyards, pubs and restaurants. One example is a traditional inn in St Aubin where the menu is dominated by fresh fish and seafood – as genuine as the atmosphere in the harbor outside.
