Keep in mind:

  • The assessment is an objective summary of the physical exertion (length and ascent) and the technical challenge (surface and incline). This means that a long and flat tour on smooth surface can get the same rating as a short and steep tour on more difficult surface. The tours are described in more detail in the trip information.
  • The ascent is more important than the length for how tough the tour is experienced.
  • Sometimes information about either length or effective time is missing. Count on hiking approximately 2.5 km/h in hilly terrain at a leisurely pace.
  • With an e-bike, the difficulty level decreases by one step on our scale. We then count on using a lower assistance level that lets the battery last all day.
  • If the trip is led by a guide, they are responsible for safety and can advise a traveler against participating if their ability or equipment is deemed insufficient.
  • Test beforehand! Try walking or cycling some tours at home that are similar to those in the program. Also take the opportunity to test your equipment.
