Start with the three-layer principle

1. Moisture-wicking shirt closest to the body
2. Insulation layer like fleece
3. Shell jacket against moisture and wind

• Choose quick-drying functional materials like synthetic or wool over cotton
• Always keep reinforcement garments in your backpack even if the sun is shining in the morning. The weather can change
• Make sure to test and break in all equipment before the trip, especially the shoes

Various packing tips

• Passport, money, tickets and insurance documents
• Medications and contact lenses
• Mobile phone, charger and power bank (navigation is usually done with the phone)
• Casual clothes for evenings
• Swimwear and small towel
• Water bottle or water bladder of at least 1.5 liters
• Plate, mug, spork, pocket knife, thermos and sitting pad if picnic lunch is relevant
• Blister plasters or sports tape
• First aid kit
• Sunscreen and lip balm (especially in dry mountain air)
• Waterproof plastic bags for fragile items

Pack right

• Put the most important things in your carry-on when flying: passport, money, tickets, insurance documents, medications, contact lenses, a change of clothes and hiking or cycling clothes. Then you can start the trip even if your bag is delayed.
• Pack light: remember that every kilo must be carried for many hours. Other luggage is left at the hotel or transported between accommodations.
