Walking in the Channel Islands: Jersey, Guernsey & Sark

You arrive in Jersey, the largest and southernmost of the Channel Islands. In the capital St Helier, you can begin exploring the city's attractions – including the historic quarters that bear traces from the Reformation. Here you'll also find the Maritime Museum and Occupation Tapestry Gallery which provide deeper insight into the island's history.

The first hike combines culture, history and culinary delights in a way that will recur throughout the week. From La Rocque Harbour, the site of the last French attack on Jersey in 1781, you walk along oyster farms and small farm shops. Birdlife is rich, especially during migration periods. You visit the impressive Gorey Castle from 1204 before the route continues back via quiet country roads. Perhaps an After Walk at an inviting pub?

A short transfer takes you to the famous Jersey War Tunnels – a captivating museum that tells the story of the German occupation during World War II. The experience is both eerie and fascinating. From there you walk through St Peter's Valley, a wooded area that transitions into open heights, before the trail reaches the coast. The day ends at the picturesque harbour in St Aubin where locally caught lobster might be on tonight's menu.

A beautiful walk from St Aubin to Noirmont Point, where you see remains from the German occupation. The route continues through the nature reserve at Ouaisné and on to the cave La Cotte de St Brelade, known for its Neanderthal discoveries. A varied and easy walking day with both nature and history.

An hour's ferry takes you to Guernsey's charming capital St Peter Port. Here you can stroll along cobblestone streets, visit subtropical gardens and admire Castle Cornet which has guarded the town for 800 years. Note that ferries depart at different times (from early morning to evening) and this may affect how much time you have to explore the island. We recommend checking the timetable in advance.

After a short bus journey to La Rousse Tower, today's walk begins along Guernsey's wild north coast. Here lie many fortifications, built both against Napoleon and during World War II. You follow bays, reed areas and nature reserves before finishing along the east coast, with views over Herm, Sark and even France in clear weather.

From St Peter Port the ferry takes you to Sark, a unique island where motor traffic is prohibited. The walk goes across the elevated plateau, to the natural bridge La Coupé which connects Little and Big Sark. You're met with magnificent views and dramatic cliff formations before returning to Guernsey for the last evening in St Peter Port.

The journey ends in St Peter Port. From here you can easily continue to the airport for your journey home or further adventures.
