Follow in the footsteps of the Norwegian kings to the king of fjords, through some of the country's most magnificent landscapes. Sogn is one of Norway's premier hiking areas and from the historic King's Road to Sognefjorden – Norway's largest – awaits a week filled with contrasting nature experiences. You hike through verdant valleys, past old summer farms and stave churches and enjoy views over both deep fjords and snow-clad peaks. The trip culminates in Utladalen where mighty Vettisfossen plunges 275 meters down into the valley. Thanks to low altitudes and early snowmelt, this is one of the few fjord hikes that can be experienced already during early summer. A content-rich hiking trip that combines nature experiences, cultural history and genuine Norwegian environments.

The journey begins with a bus trip from Oslo to Husum in Lærdal. Here you land directly in the authentic Norwegian environment by staying the first two nights at a historic hotel dating back to the 1800s. The King's Road is just a short walk away and depending on arrival time there's an opportunity to stretch your legs with a short walk in the surroundings before dinner is served. Here you get a first taste of the landscape that has made Sogn one of Norway's most beloved hiking areas.
The hike mainly follows gravel roads, forest paths and mountain trails. The terrain varies from easy cultural paths to more demanding fjord trails with long ascents and descents. Daily stages are 5–13 km with 230-370 meters of elevation per day. One day offers greater ascents. The trip suits experienced exercisers with normal to good fitness who want to combine cultural history with classic Norwegian fjord nature.
You stay at three traditional hotels with good locations near the hiking trails. The accommodations offer comfortable rooms with private bathrooms and a genuine Norwegian atmosphere. One hotel is located in a historic wooden building by the fjord, another dates back to the 1800s and the third is located directly by the waters of Sognefjorden. Overall, the accommodation corresponds to our Comfort level.
