E5 is one of Europe's most famous long-distance trails, and is not called "the most beautiful of all Alpine crossings" without reason. Here you hike from the green Allgäu, through Tyrol's mighty mountain world and further into sunny South Tyrol and the resort of Merano. The trail offers a constantly changing alpine landscape with thundering waterfalls, deep valleys, wide alpine meadows, high alpine passes, glacier landscapes and sharp mountain ridges. The views are mile-long, captivating and magnificent. The journey's efforts are regularly rewarded at a mountain hut or alpine meadow where you can take a break and enjoy the views. This is a dream trip for the Alps lover who wants to cross the entire mountain range.

Take a walk through Oberstdorf or take the cable car up towards Nebelhorn to get a feel for the alpine air before the start.
Level & standard
This is a full-fledged alpine hike with daily stages of 4–6 hours. Several sections go at high altitude and require good fitness, sure footing and some altitude experience. The first two days are clearly alpine; thereafter there are sometimes alternative, easier routes in the valley and the possibility to shorten certain stretches with local transport. You need to have good fitness and experience with mountain hiking.
During the hike you stay at selected hotels and guesthouses that reflect the character of the region – from traditional alpine villages to elegant South Tyrolean valleys. Choose between Comfort with comfortable 3-4* hotels with good comfort and genuine alpine feel, or Charm with 4* premium hotels with more design, larger spa and extra culinary touches.
