Hiking Transalp: Füssen - Merano

Crossing the entire Alpine chain from north to south is a great experience and not at all as difficult as it sounds. With the help of bus and train, you only walk the best parts from Bavarian Allgäu, with the fairytale castle Neuschwanstein, to sunny Merano in Italian South Tyrol. Along the way you follow the Way of St. James and the turquoise river Lech with expansive alpine meadows and mighty cliff walls as a backdrop. Along the way, the surroundings slowly change as you cross country borders and cultural boundaries. The famous church tower in Lake Resia welcomes you to Italy and soon the cultivations are heavy with juicy apples and promising grapevines. At the finish line in Merano you are met by palm trees, promenades and a mild, almost Mediterranean climate. It's a perfect reward after a week on some of the Alps' most beautiful trails.
