Everything tastes so much better when you've been active! Rarely is this as true as on this delightful walking trip for gourmets in Italy's perhaps finest food and wine region. The Alps and Apennines provide a magnificent backdrop to the picturesque hills, each with a village or castle on top and a skirt of perfectly straight vine rows. Here in the Langhe area, some of Italy's most prestigious wines are made - Barolo, Barbaresco and Barbera, and the charming medieval town of Alba is famous for white truffles, gourmet cheeses and chocolate.
This birthplace of Slow Food culture reveals its culinary and cultural treasures to those who move slowly through the landscape. Visit picturesque villages, elegant castles and taste all the good things. The walks are easy to moderate and go through the vineyards on fine trails, mule tracks and peaceful gravel roads (strade bianche).
You stay at charming small hotels or B&Bs and you can choose between different trip lengths.

Arrival in Alba, the medieval city "with a hundred towers" and a treasure chest full of flavors and aromas in the heart of Piedmont's wine district. Spend the afternoon exploring the city and all the pastry shops offering divine delicacies and pastries.

The hikes are of moderate character along vineyards, on hiking trails, mule tracks and small gravel roads (strade bianche). The stages go over gently rolling hills between villages like Barolo and Monforte d'Alba, with varying length and elevation. Some days have shorter alternatives.
Accommodation
You stay at charming 3-star hotels in the cities, and at comfortable farms (agriturismo) in smaller towns and in the countryside, some of them well-known for their cuisine and regional flavors. All rooms have toilet/shower/bath. Breakfast included.

Gourmet Hiking in PiedmontDespite enormous amounts of rain on the first day, which made the trails muddy and slippery throughout the week, the hiking days were really fun. The ascent, as well as the terrain was sometimes very challenging - more like 4 than 3, but it was beautiful and everyone we met was helpful, happy and spoke English. We also ran into a large wild boar family with piglets in the hazel forests - we were as surprised as they were.
