Just a couple of hours from Turin awaits a part of the Alps that many miss. Here you encounter unspoiled alpine environments without crowds and, at the same time, an exclusive yet down-to-earth experience of the Alps. In Val Chisone and Val Germanasca, you stay in the mountain villages of Fenestrelle and Prali and choose for yourself among hikes of varying length and difficulty. One day you can take a relaxed tour through larch forest and old villages, the next aim for a proper alpine day with even more challenge. Mountain lakes, blooming alpine meadows, marmots and high peaks provide the nature, while the massive fortress in Fenestrelle and old mining trails add historical spice. An unusually flexible hiking trip for the connoisseur who enjoys discovering a lesser-known corner of Italy.

The trip begins in Fenestrelle, a small mountain town deep within Val Chisone. Already upon arrival, the area's special character is evident: forested mountainsides rise around the village, and above the houses the enormous Forte di Fenestrelle fortress spreads out across the mountain. After check-in, you have the rest of the day at your own leisure. Take a walk through the village, stretch your legs after the journey, get acquainted with the surroundings, and enjoy your first espresso. Ahead of you await two days where you choose your own hikes based on weather, form, and ambition level.
Level and accommodation
This trip is unusually flexible and you decide for yourself how tough it should be. The stages are 7–19 km and 315–1,350 meters in elevation gain. The terrain consists of alpine meadows, forest paths, gravel roads, rocky mountain trails and shorter stretches of asphalt. The toughest options require good fitness and hiking experience.
You stay in renovated, small-scale and cozy accommodations in peaceful mountain villages, with an eye for the traditional architecture. The rooms are spacious and have a private bathroom, and the hospitality is personal with good local knowledge. Breakfast is served every morning and packed lunches are arranged for the hiking days. If necessary, equivalent alternative accommodations may be used.
