Moselsteig is one of Germany's most appreciated quality trails – and it shows immediately. Over five days you hike between idyllic wine villages, over gentle hills and through nature reserves in Europe's steepest wine region. The landscape constantly changes: lush slopes, ancient forests, open fields and views over the winding Moselle. There are plenty of opportunities to stop, taste a glass of local wine and feel the tranquility of the valley. The journey begins with views towards both France and Luxembourg and ends in lively Trier, Germany's oldest city. A short, varied and very atmospheric hike.

Extensive views over the borderland towards France and Luxembourg
Vineyards, wine villages and exquisite Elbling wines
Nitteler Fels – nature reserve with dramatic limestone cliffs
Historic Trier with Roman remains
Comfortable accommodations and well-marked trails
Moselsteig offers well-marked trails, varied terrain and constant views. The surface is good and the daily stages are medium-length. Two of the days are longer, but can be shortened with local transport. Normal basic fitness is sufficient, but you should be used to walking uphill and downhill.
You stay at pleasant three-star hotels and guesthouses along the trail. The standard is good, the rooms comfortable and the breakfasts substantial. Many of the accommodations are located in wine villages with close proximity to restaurants and local wine producers, giving the entire trip a cozy and authentic character.
