Hiking along Moselsteig

5 days / 4 nights

4 Breakfasts included

Day 1: Welcome to Perl

The journey begins in Perl, a small wine region in Saarland where the Mosel marks the border with Luxembourg. On the other side of the river lies Schengen – a historic starting point in many ways. Feel the atmosphere of the village and prepare for the week's hikes, preferably with a steaming glass of wine to get in the mood.

Day 2: Three-country hike to Palzem

22 km, 400 m up, 450 m down

Breakfast

A lovely start with views over three countries – Luxembourg, France and Germany. You follow trails through vineyards, groves and open fields before reaching Palzem, known for its vineyards and its Elbling wines. Here you meet the Mosel again and can round off the day at a pleasant restaurant while pondering which restaurant suits best for the evening's dinner. The accommodation is happy to give tips.

Day 3: Hike to Nittel

16 km, 300 m up, 350 m down

Breakfast

The day begins with a visit to the double-spired church in Helfant before the trail continues over blooming meadows and through forests. Shorter but steeper sections are rewarded with views towards the Mosel. You reach Nittel, another wine village with fine character.

Day 4: Hike to Trier

23 km, 450 m up, 450 m down

Breakfast

You finish with the journey's highlight. You hike through Nitteler Felsen – a nature reserve of limestone cliffs and rich flora – and onwards towards Wasserliesch. From here you take the train the final stretch into Trier, the Mosel metropolis with Roman monuments and charming city center. Absorb the atmosphere in Germany's oldest city and let your imagination travel through history.

Day 5: Farewell to the hiking journey along the Moselle

Breakfast

After breakfast the journey ends. You can choose to stay in Trier to discover more of the city's history, or travel onwards.
