The Great Glen divides Scotland in two and consists of dramatic valleys and lakes including the world-famous Loch Ness. Cycling from loch to loch, from coast to coast, from Fort William to Inverness over five days is a fantastic experience.
The Great Glen Cycleway largely follows the Great Glen Way National Trail walking route, but takes a different path around Loch Oich. The tour is approximately 129 km long starting at Fort William, near the foot of Britain's highest peak Ben Nevis, and ending in Inverness, the capital of the highlands.
The cycling goes on predominantly natural surfaces but is uncomplicated: canal towpaths, forest trails, some more challenging sections on single tracks and gravel roads. There are stretches with very steep hills.
The trip is an excellent alternative for you who don't want to or can't be away for more than five days. It also works excellently if you want to combine a few days of cycling with visits to Glasgow, Edinburgh or somewhere else in Scotland.

For you who cycle regularly and have very good fitness. The tours are quite long and hilly and go on a lot of natural surfaces such as gravel roads and technically simple trails. The cycling requires steady pace, endurance and confidence in downhill sections where speed can be high. The middle stage is the most demanding of the week.
Charming bed & breakfast, guesthouses and smaller hotels with personal atmosphere. A hearty breakfast is served every morning so you start the day with energy. Packed lunches can usually be ordered and dinner is conveniently eaten at nearby pubs or restaurants after the day's stage.
