In the past, people traveled on foot or horseback on the pilgrimage route Camino de Santiago, and today it's walking or cycling that applies. There are many variants but Camino Primitivo, the primitive or original way, is the oldest. It was first used by Alfonso II, king of Asturias, who when he heard that the relics of Saint James had been found in a remote place in what is now Galicia, started his own pilgrimage in 829.
Your cycling journey follows this authentic route that was very popular during the early medieval period when pilgrims wanted to avoid the constant conflicts between Christian and Moorish kingdoms in central Spain. The history and beautiful green landscape of Asturias and Galicia accompany you on this pilgrimage cycling, as well as the special brotherhood with other pilgrims from around the world.

Arrival in Oviedo and check-in at your hotel. Take the opportunity to visit the Gothic cathedral dedicated to San Salvador, an important saint to whom many pilgrims express their devotion. Enjoy the lively atmosphere of Oviedo's charming historic center with many cafés, restaurants and cider bars.

The cycling stages are of moderate character on good and quiet roads. The surface and traffic are usually gentle, with rolling terrain and steady uphill sections here and there. Some days offer more climbing, especially around Tineo and Fonsagrada, but the pace is your own and the reward is great views.
