Mjølkevegen is considered one of Norway's most beautiful cycling routes. The 250 kilometer long route stretches from Vinstra in Gudbrandsdalen to Gol in Hallingdal and goes through an open, living mountain landscape with summer farms, pastures and extensive views. The name comes from the time when the road was used by dairies to collect milk from farms in the area.
The route offers a wonderful mix of old gravel roads, small lakes and babbling brooks, blooming summer meadows and traditional farm life. You cycle through mountain terrain and it is close to nature, peaceful and authentic – a journey through the Norwegian cultural landscape at its finest.
Choose between three programs
Northern Mjølkevegen is the most mountain-close, magnificent and demanding part. It is fully feasible for experienced fitness enthusiasts but feels more like a mountain adventure. The level is 4, with up to 63 km per day and climbs of 1000 meters elevation.
Southern Mjølkevegen suits you who want to cycle at a calmer pace and enjoy the grand landscape with plenty of time for breaks and stops along the way. The level is 2, with stages of up to 35 km and climbs around 400 meters per day.
The entire Mjølkevegen includes the best stretches from both parts and you get to experience how the landscape changes from valley to mountain. The level is 3 with more variation in difficulty between days.

Enjoy the scenic journey from Oslo to the Valdres region. After leaving the capital, you will soon find yourself on country roads passing through small towns surrounded by lakes and fields. As you venture further inland, you will see mountains in the distance and enter the national park. Various departure times to choose from.
Accommodation in Lemonsjoen
The southern part offers mostly easy and flat cycling on gravel roads, with pleasant rolling and gentle ascents and descents. Daily stages of 25 - 35 km provide plenty of time for breaks and views, and suits cyclists with normal basic fitness who want to enjoy rather than rush.
The northern part suits you who cycle regularly and have very good fitness. The circuit offers long, hilly stretches and fast descents, which requires confident bike control and steady endurance. The difficulty level varies, with one particularly demanding stage and a shorter day that provides some recovery.
The combination of northern and southern parts goes through varying terrain and is easier in the south and tougher in the north.
You stay at traditional and historic mountain hotels with genuine atmosphere and warm hospitality. Each day includes breakfast, lunch and dinner, so you can focus on the cycling. Enjoy welcoming environments and pleasant evenings that give new energy for the next stage. Examples of accommodations:
