This cycling trip takes you through Italy's northeasternmost region of Friuli. This rather unknown landscape has much to offer the curious traveler who yearns for an authentic Italian experience. The journey begins in Austrian Villach, fitting since the entire area once belonged to Austria. Soon you roll into Italy and the Julian Alps. From there you follow the entire magnificent Alpe-Adria cycle route down to the lagoon landscape and "little Venice" Grado. Along the way await beautiful Udine, the UNESCO heritage sites Palmanova and Aquileia ("the second Rome") as well as exquisite food and tasty wines from the Collio district. The cycling is easy and car-free through a changing landscape: from the Alps' majestic backdrop, over lush plains and mirror-like lagoons to inviting sandy beaches.

The journey begins in the heart of Carinthia, in the charming town of Villach. Here you are greeted by the silence of the mountains, crystal-clear lakes and an atmosphere filled with diversity. Take a walk through the old town, enjoy a coffee on the square and recharge before the week's cycling.
The cycling trip is of moderate difficulty and suits you with basic fitness. You cycle mainly on fine cycle paths and quiet country roads. Only short stretches go along roads with more traffic or on gravel roads.
You stay at 3-star hotels in Italy and a 4-star hotel in Villach. All accommodations are carefully selected to ensure a relaxing stay after a day on the bike, always with breakfast included every morning for a good start to the day.
