Hidden gem Friuli lies in Italy's northeastern parts and welcomes the traveler seeking an authentically Italian experience with everyday life, local food culture and of course fantastically beautiful hiking trails. From the Julian Alps' pointed limestone mountains and wild rivers to medieval villages, vineyards and coastal paths with views over the Adriatic Sea, you go on a journey of discovery. You start in Tarvisio, in the borderland between Italy, Austria and Slovenia, and hike via Monte Lussari before the trail takes you down towards the lowlands. You follow panoramic trails above the Tagliamento river, continue through Collio's rolling wine landscape and then reach Trieste, one of Italy's most fascinating port cities. A captivating and surprising hiking journey from mountain to sea.

You begin your journey in the charming alpine town of Tarvisio, surrounded by the Carnic Alps, Julian Alps and the Karawanks massif. Austria and Slovenia are both just a mountain pass away and there's a distinct feeling of standing in a borderland. A fine starting point for the week's adventure through Friuli, which begins in fresh Alpine air.
Level & standard
The hiking alternates between mountain trails, forest paths and gravel roads and is moderately strenuous. Length and elevation differences are indicated in the daily program. There is sometimes the possibility to shorten the days with local transport.
Accommodation
You stay at selected 3- and 4-star hotels with good comfort and local location. The rooms are modern and breakfast is abundant, and cozy restaurants are nearby. The accommodation styles vary from alpine to maritime and reflect the region's diversity.
