You arrive in Porto, one of Europe's most atmospheric cities and a UNESCO World Heritage site. Here there's plenty of time to land after the journey and start exploring the city at a leisurely pace. Take a walk along the Douro River, stroll through the historic neighborhoods of Ribeira and Vila Nova de Gaia and enjoy the atmosphere. Don't miss trying a glass of port wine – after all, you're in its hometown.
Level and standard
The cycling is generally easy to moderately challenging with mostly flat or gently rolling terrain. The surface varies between paved cycle paths, gravel roads and small country roads with little traffic. Some shorter, more hilly sections occur, particularly around Sintra and Cascais. Daily stages average 35–50 km.
Accommodation
You can choose between two accommodation levels. Comfort hotels have 3-4 stars while Charm hotels consistently maintain 4-star standards and offer an exquisite experience. All enjoy fine locations for exploring the area, often near the sea or in city centers. A proper breakfast is served as a good start to the day.
