Cycle from Algarve to Andalusia

East of Faro, the proud regional capital, lies Sotavento algarvio. Unlike windy cliffs in the west, the eastern part of Algarve has a mild subtropical climate with Mediterranean influences, particularly suitable for cycling year-round. The Ria Formosa Nature Park's coastline with its pristine beaches is a true refuge for biodiversity and is advantageously located protected by five barrier islands.

Here you will find lagoons, islands, sandbanks, pine forests and so-called "sapal" or salt plains. These are rich ecosystems, especially for birds and you can among other things find pink flamingos, spoonbills or avocets.

This cycling trip also invites you to discover the agronomic wealth of these regions, initiated by the Moors in medieval times and enriched by contributions from the great maritime discoveries. The harvests of "sequeiro", almond trees, fig trees and carob trees compete with the irrigated harvests of "regadio", orange trees, lemon trees, persimmon trees and avocado trees.

In the east, the great Guadiana river is the natural border between Algarve and Andalusia, between Portugal and Spain. For one day we offer the possibility to cross the Guadiana by boat and explore the Andalusian side. A journey within a journey!
