Here awaits an open landscape where the North Sea, Wadden Sea and IJsselmeer meet, with miles-long sandy beaches, historic trading cities and some of the world's most famous flower fields. During a week you cycle through UNESCO-listed polder landscapes, along old sea dikes and between charming coastal towns before taking the ferry over to the island of Texel. Welcome to Alkmaar, one of the Netherlands' most well-known historic cities. The city is world-famous for its traditional cheese market that is still held during spring and summer. Take the opportunity to stroll through the charming city center with canals, cafés and beautiful facades before the cycling adventure begins the next day.
Overnight in Alkmaar
The daily stages vary between 48 and 66 km on almost completely flat terrain. The route mainly follows cycle paths, minor country roads and along coastal and sea dikes. Only through the sand dunes do shorter hills occur. The trip suits you with normal fitness who want to cycle slightly longer daily stages without major elevation differences.
You stay in three- and four-star hotels with private bathrooms and breakfast. In "Den Helder" there is an opportunity to upgrade to a higher standard hotel by the coast. The hotels are centrally located or close to the day's attractions and provide a comfortable base throughout the trip.
