Zeeland is the Netherlands' undiscovered coastal gem. Here await vast sandy beaches, rolling dunes, charming small towns and a landscape that has literally been created from the sea. Over six days, you cycle between historic fortress towns, lively fishing harbours and medieval town centres, all while marvelling at some of the world's most impressive water engineering projects. You pedal across the mighty dams of the Delta Works, where the sea stretches out on one side and a calm inland sea on the other. The route is consistently flat and easy to cycle, giving you plenty of time to enjoy the sea air, the open views and Zeeland's relaxed pace. This is a trip for those who want to combine scenic coastal landscapes with fascinating history and comfortable cycling.

Welcome to Zeeland, the Netherlands' southwestern corner where the sea, the dunes and the vast views set the tone for the week. Burgh-Haamstede is located on the island of Schouwen-Duiveland and becomes your base for the first night. If you're travelling by public transport, you should expect around three hours of travel time from Amsterdam Schiphol or the ferry terminal in Hoek van Holland, as the town lacks a train station and is reached by bus via Rotterdam. Once you arrive, one of the Netherlands' most scenic cycling regions awaits.
Level and standard
Zeeland is one of Europe's most easily cycled areas, with essentially completely flat terrain. The route runs along paved cycle paths, quiet country roads and well-maintained bike lanes through coastal landscapes, polders and small villages. The stages average around 50 km per day and involve only minor elevation changes, making the trip suitable for anyone with normal fitness and some experience cycling for half a day at a relaxed pace.
You stay at selected three- and four-star hotels with good standards and central or scenic locations. All offer private bathrooms and a breakfast buffet. The accommodation is classified as Comfort, with the option to upgrade part of your stay to Charm through a hotel with a higher standard in Burgh-Haamstede. The hotels may vary depending on availability but always maintain the same level of comfort.
