Volcano Hiking in Sicily

Perhaps the most fascinating thing about Sicily is its colors. The sea dominates with its countless shades of green, turquoise and blue, in sharp contrast to the white fishing villages and the black lava.

The islands Lipari, Vulcano and Stromboli are active or dormant volcanoes and beautiful outposts with small fishing settlements and a refreshingly simple life. On the Sicilian "mainland" instead stands Etna which at 3323 meters above sea level is the constantly present giant. Smoke often rises from the snow-dusted peak and you explore ancient lava flows with strange flora that thrives up here. The slopes are dotted with small villages like bird nests and the colors return: green, yellow and red minerals together with lush greenery.

Equally colorful is the cuisine, which has drawn inspiration from all directions and is always equally flavorful, fresh and surprising.
