If you really want to experience authentic Sicily, head to the remote Madonie Mountains - with a lovely finish in Cefalù with its quintessential Mediterranean atmosphere. The area is characterized by 2000-meter peaks and ancient villages and traditions. This is the mafia's homeland but the people have actively put the dark history behind them and proudly care for their natural and cultural treasures. The hiking is rewarding with extensive views and stops in small villages that stand like eagle's nests on the steep slopes. The finish in Cefalù offers well-deserved swimming and relaxation.
