You arrive in Betws-y-Coed, often described as the gateway to Snowdonia National Park. If you arrive early, you can take a short warm-up walk on one of the trails around the village, or venture into the beautiful Gwydir Forest, a woodland area as enchanting as its name suggests. Another option is to follow the path along the river up to the mighty Swallow Falls. Betws-y-Coed is a well-known center for outdoor activities, so there are plenty of hiking gear shops here if anything is missing. In the evening, there are several restaurants that work with local ingredients.
The hiking in Snowdonia is of moderate difficulty. The trails are well-trodden but often go through hilly and mountainous terrain with rocky sections. The ascent of Mount Snowdon involves a longer day with clear elevation gain, but is fully achievable for those with normal good fitness and some hiking experience.
You stay at personal hotels and B&Bs of good standard, with comfortable rooms and private bathrooms. The accommodations are often housed in classic Victorian houses or traditional buildings with local character and personal atmosphere. The location is central in the villages or just outside, with close proximity to restaurants, pubs and hiking trails. In several cases there are common areas or gardens where you can relax after the day's hike, always with the proximity to Snowdonia's nature around the corner.
