The Julian Alps welcome hikers who love pure nature experiences – panoramic plateaus, crystal-clear lakes and a culture that rests on both alpine and southern European traditions. Here you hike through Slovenia's only national park, Triglav, where forested valleys meet sharp dolomite mountains and deep ravines. The journey begins and ends at the fairytale-beautiful Lake Bled and you hike by tranquil Lake Bohinj and along the Soča River, perhaps the most beautiful river in the Alps, with its almost Caribbean-white sandy beaches.

Arrive in Bled and take in the atmosphere of Slovenia's most classic postcard landscape. The island with its small church situated in the middle of the deep blue lake sets the tone for the journey's exceptionally beautiful nature experiences. Stroll along the lakeside or take a shorter hike in the surroundings.
Level & standard
We classify the hiking as moderately challenging and quite typical for the Alps. You need good basic fitness and endurance for daily stages of over 20 km and 900 meters of elevation, but several days are considerably calmer. The terrain alternates between forest trails, gravel roads and alpine paths where sure footing is required. Some stages can be shortened with local transport or transfer.
You stay at pleasant 3–4-star hotels as well as a simpler guesthouse on Pokljuka or in Trenta. The style varies between modern alpine hotels and family-run inns. The accommodations are located in small villages or directly in nature. Rooms always have private bathrooms and breakfast is hearty and locally influenced.
