The Great Glen Way is a fascinating hiking trail through Scotland's most famous Glen from Fort William to Inverness via Loch Ness. Along the hike you will discover the highlights that make this area such a magnet for hikers. You pass Britain's highest mountain Ben Nevis (1344 m above sea level) and follow rolling paths along the shores of Loch Ness. The journey goes over moors and groves and past castles and fortresses that bear witness to Scotland's turbulent past. The finish takes place in Inverness, the capital of the Highlands.
You can choose to walk the entire trail from Fort William to Inverness, or start partway in Fort Augustus, to just get the best parts.














Discover majestic Ben Nevis, Britain's highest mountain, in Fort William.
Hike along the mysterious Loch Ness and look out for Nessie.
Visit historic Fort Augustus with its beautiful canal and locks.

For you who are used to hiking and in good physical condition. The hike is of moderately challenging character and you walk on natural and varied terrain, hiking trails and mountain paths. There are longer stages and more ascent, especially towards Drumnadrochit and on the finish towards Inverness, where a longer variant exists.
Charming bed & breakfast, guesthouses and smaller hotels with local character. A hearty breakfast is served every morning so you start the day full and satisfied. Packed lunches can usually be ordered from the accommodation and dinner can be eaten at nearby pubs or restaurants, where you also meet the local life.
