
From Bosnia's lively capital to Dubrovnik's mighty city walls awaits a cycling trip full of contrasts. You pedal through high mountain passes, deep valleys and vineyards, follow the turquoise-green Neretva River and pass through historic towns such as Konjic, Mostar, Počitelj and Trebinje. Along the way you encounter a fascinating blend of Ottoman heritage, Mediterranean atmosphere and small villages where the pace is still pleasantly slow. Both ancient and modern history are constantly present, and it is a destination that truly opens your eyes. The route partly follows the Ciro Trail cycling route and ends with a magnificent descent towards the Adriatic Sea and Dubrovnik – one of Europe's most impressive coastal cities. This trip suits you who cycle regularly and appreciate varied terrain. The route runs almost exclusively on paved roads with low traffic and offers several longer climbs, but also many lovely descents and easy-cycling stretches along rivers and through valleys. The stages are on average about 55 km long with an average of 600 meters of elevation gain per day. Tougher days are mixed with easier ones, and an e-bike is an excellent alternative if you want to enjoy the surroundings more than the climbs.
You stay at carefully selected smaller hotels and guesthouses with good standards and a personal atmosphere. All accommodations offer a private bathroom and breakfast, and several are certified as Bike Friendly with good service for cyclists. The standard corresponds to Charm (3-4*) according to Epic Trails' scale and provides a comfortable base after the day's cycling.
