Canal de Garonne and Canal du Midi once formed a connection between the Atlantic and the Mediterranean, somewhat like a French Göta Canal. From the elegant wine city of Bordeaux you follow the water to the pink city of Toulouse and onward to the azure blue Mediterranean at Sète.
The cycling is extremely relaxed as you roll along almost car-free roads in the shade of plane trees. This laid-back corner of France is almost completely free of stress and tourists, and you get close to everyday life in the small communities that line the canal.
There is much to enjoy along the way: narrow river barges, charming locks, old villages, gastronomic surprises, beautiful cities like Carcassonne and the wine regions of Lauragais and Minervois. A journey for those seeking the soul of France.

Today you travel to Bordeaux by train, plane or car and settle into your comfortable centrally located hotel. Simple public transport connections (tram or shuttle) are available here. We recommend arriving relatively early to have the chance to explore Bordeaux, a very pleasant city on the Garonne River.

Level and standard
You cycle relatively long distances of between 40-70 km per day, with greater effort required for those with normal fitness. The terrain is easy to cycle with some hilly sections. The stage to Meilhan-sur-Garonne may feel more hilly. Toulouse - Sète may feel tougher as the routes partly go on gravel roads.

All accommodations are carefully selected for their location, atmosphere and/or unique services. We choose comfortable hotels or B&Bs where all rooms have private bathrooms and breakfast every morning is included. Dinner is included 1 evening, for an extra pleasant finish.
