Canal de Garonne and Canal du Midi once carried shipping between the Atlantic and the Mediterranean. From the elegant, historic wine city of Bordeaux, you follow the canal to the pink city of Toulouse. The cycling is truly relaxed along almost car-free roads through a laid-back corner of southern France's countryside. Stress and tourists are almost completely absent in the small communities that line the canal.
From Toulouse, you follow in the footsteps of the famous French canal architect Paul Riquet through the agricultural region of Lauragais and the vineyards of Minervois. The ingeniously constructed and now UNESCO-protected Canal du Midi is your guide. There is much to enjoy along the way: river barges, locks, old villages, gastronomic surprises and beautiful cities like Carcassonne. You end the journey by the azure sea, in the charming town of Sète.

Admire the impressive locks at Canal du Midi.
Discover the beautiful Place de la Bourse in Bordeaux.
Wander through the medieval streets of Carcassonne.
Enjoy the view over the historic city center of Toulouse.
End the journey at the picturesque harbor in Sète.
Select Your Program Variation:
You cycle relatively long distances of between 40-70 km per day, with greater effort for those with normal fitness. The terrain is easy to cycle with some hilly sections. The stage to Meilhan-sur-Garonne may feel more hilly. Toulouse - Sète may feel tougher as the routes partly go on gravel roads.
All accommodations are carefully selected for their location, atmosphere and/or unique services. We choose comfortable hotels or B&Bs where all rooms have private bathrooms and breakfast every morning is included. Dinner is included 1 evening, for an extra pleasant finish.
