Experience the western part of the Lycian Way – one of Turkey's most classic hiking trails. Here awaits everything from high mountains and pine forests to ancient ruins and golden sandy beaches. The trail winds high above the Mediterranean with views towards the up to 3,000 meter high Taurus Mountains. You hike through olive groves and Mediterranean vegetation, pass ancient aqueducts and discover remains from the time of the Lycians. Highlights include the ancient cities of Patara and Xanthos, as well as Patara's 12 km long, protected beach where sea turtles nest.
Views over Babadag mountain and the turquoise lagoon in Ölüdeniz
Secluded beaches like Kabak Bay and Karadere beach
Ancient remains such as the aqueduct in Delikkemer, Patara and Xanthos
Hiking through authentic mountain villages with traditional daily life
The protected sea turtles on Patara beach
Well-marked trails, often rocky and hilly. Hiking time 4–6 hours per day. Max ascent about 900 m, max descent about 950 m.
On this trip, every night is a small experience. Instead of large chain hotels, you are welcomed to family-run guesthouses and boutique hotels where soul and hospitality are at the center. The standard is simple but comfortable. Several have outstanding sea views from the rooms or the shared terrace. The meals included are prepared with ingredients from the local area – imagine returning from a hike to the scent of grilling and herbs.
