We welcome you to discover the magic of Madeira – entirely on your own terms. With a rental car and a carefully selected range of hikes of varying difficulty levels, you can shape your days exactly as you wish. With accommodation by the sea on both the north and south coasts, you get to experience the island's most fascinating contrasts: from wild, dramatic cliffs to sunny villages with tropical greenery. Imagine hiking through banana plantations and sugar cane fields, along terraces with taro (inhame) and through small authentic villages, while mighty volcanic peaks rise 1,800 meters above the sea. Or perhaps a day of tranquility appeals to you, where you simply breathe in Madeira's wild and untouched nature?
NOTE: For this trip, the driver must be at least 23 years old and have held a driver's license for at least 1 year.

Upon arrival at Madeira's airport, you pick up your rental car and drive towards the northeast coast. Depending on your chosen accommodation category, you settle in for three nights in the area. Porto da Cruz is a small village on the wild northeast coast, with a beach and natural sea pool, dominated by the characteristic Eagle Peak. Boaventura offers a rural hotel on the north coast with indoor pool, jacuzzi and sauna. This is the start of your days filled with hiking, nature and coastal experiences.

Level & standard
This trip is suitable for you who want a bit more challenge while still enjoying hiking at a pleasant pace. You get a wider selection of hikes than the number of days, from shorter tours of 3 hours to longer stretches of up to 5–6 hours. The trails go through varied terrain along levadas, through subtropical forests and over rugged mountain ridges. The elevation differences are moderate to sometimes a bit more demanding, but the hikes are never technically difficult. Good basic fitness and experience with day hikes will help you get the most out of the trip.
You can choose between two different accommodation options:
Standard: Accommodation at hotels or B&Bs with 2-3* standard.
Comfort: Accommodation at hotels with 3-4* standard, for extra comfort after the day's adventures.
