Along the border between Aude and Ariège, where the foothills of the Pyrenees spread out, the Cathar castles rise as mighty witnesses to a time of tragedy, intrigue and drama that once shook southern France.
Your adventure begins in Quillan and leads through historically charged landscapes towards Foix. You explore Puivert – the troubadours' castle – cross Pays de Sault and encounter Montségur, the most legendary of all Cathar castles, dramatically placed 1,207 meters above sea level. Just before Foix, Roquefixade also awaits, a stately cliff fortress with views over the valley.
This part of the Cathar Trail, from Quillan to Foix, is a journey through both magnificent nature and one of France's most captivating historical narratives.

Level and standard
The hikes go on good hiking trails and paths. The terrain is varied and often rocky. The hikes are of medium character and require some hiking experience. Some stages are longer and more hilly, especially towards Montségur, Roquefixade and Foix.
Accommodation
A mix of hotels and guesthouses. You can expect accommodation with character and several very well-prepared dinners. Breakfast is included all days. Dinner is included 5 days (not day 6 & 7 in the program), which enhances the overall experience after beautiful days on the trail.
