Between the Pyrenees and the Mediterranean, in the heart of the sun-kissed Corbières region, rise several impressive and mysterious castles built by the Cathars. These fortresses carry the history of a dramatic conflict between the Catholic Church and the Cathars during the 12th and 13th centuries – a history you'll explore during the week.
During this hiking week you'll discover a landscape that is as beautiful as it is dramatic, with magnificent views, varied terrain and charming medieval villages. Hike along trails that offer both natural beauty and culture, while enjoying the region's good food and local wines.
The journey begins in the World Heritage city of Carcassonne and follows the famous Sentier Cathare, from Quéribus to Foix. This week covers the first part of the trail and gives you a perfect blend of history, nature and authentic southern French charm.

Level and standard
The hikes follow good trails and paths through varied, sometimes rocky terrain and offer a steady, pleasant pace. Some days are more challenging with longer stages and more noticeable ascents, especially from Duilhac towards Cubières and onwards to Rennes les Bains.
Accommodation
A mix of hotels and guesthouses with character, where comfort is the focus. You can look forward to several very well-prepared dinners that round off the hiking days, and breakfast is included every day. Dinner is included all days except day 1. One of the hotels has a pool for lovely relaxation.
