The pilgrimage route Camino de Santiago is the result of one of the most impressive European migrations in history. The original route is Camino Primitivo which was first used by the Asturian king Alfonso II. When he heard that the remains of the apostle James had been found at a remote place in what is now Galicia, he started his own pilgrimage in the year 829.
The hike follows this authentic route that was very popular during the early medieval period. "The best of Camino Primitivo" follows ancient paths through wonderful landscapes where you are met by friendly people and get the opportunity to taste all the good things the region has to offer in terms of food and drink. The hike starts in Oviedo and ends in Galicia and Lugo. After Lugo, Camino Primitivo joins the more popular French Way (camino Francés).

Arrival in Oviedo and check-in at your hotel which is centrally located and from where you can easily experience the atmosphere of the old town center with its cafés, restaurants, bodegas and cider houses. Visit the Gothic cathedral, dedicated to San Salvador, an important saint for pilgrims on their way to Santiago.
