From Fondsbu to Gjendesheim, via the historic lodges Torfinnsbu, Gjendebu and Memurubu, you follow in the footsteps of some of the most prominent personalities in Norwegian mountain history. In this area, several pioneers in outdoor life, mountaineering, literature and music have been inspired and left their own marks. Some of these trails were the first to be maintained by The Norwegian Trekking Association. And the cairn that marks the descent to Besseggen from Veslefjell was the very first to be marked with red paint so that it would be easier to follow the trail even in foggy conditions.

On this hike you will experience more than just the beauty of the surroundings. You will travel back in time and immerse yourself in stories of mountain life, mountaineering, literature and music through stories, texts, music and nature's embrace.

You begin your journey in Oslo where the bus towards Jotunheimen departs at 08:30. The bus takes you all the way to Eidsbugarden from where you take a boat to your accommodation in Fondsbu.

Level

Moderate to challenging mountain hikes along well-marked trails. Basic mountain hiking experience and good fitness are recommended. Most hikes can be extended or shortened, and elevation differences can vary between 500 to 1300 meters. The stage over Besseggen is the most demanding.

Accommodation

You will stay at traditional and historic accommodations, where the atmosphere carries traces of the mountains' long stories. Breakfast, lunch and dinner are included every day, so you can relax after hiking and just enjoy the tranquility, company and magnificent surroundings. You can choose single rooms with the exception of Gjendebu, where it is normally not available or involves a separate supplement.
