This hiking trail stretches along Lake Bygdin for the most part, then climbs up to a dam before descending towards Torfinnsbu at the end of the trail. The name Bygdin derives from the old Norse word "bugr", which translates to a curve, reflected in the lake's boomerang-like shape. For those who prefer an easier start, or if weather doesn't permit, there's the option to take the boat across this part of the journey (the cost for this is not included in the trip price).
NOTE - At the accommodation in Torfinnsbu you will prepare your meals yourself. There is a food storage where you can take food (included) to make your dinner, breakfast and lunch pack. You will receive detailed information in your travel documents about how to use the facilities.

Svartedalen is a very beautiful valley with views over many 2000-meter peaks and glaciers. Learn about the pioneers who first climbed these peaks. However, this is not an easy hike as the trail is quite rocky, and good footwear as well as hiking poles are an advantage. At the end awaits a steep descent - under wet conditions this part can also be quite slippery. Take your time to safely reach the next hut.
Accommodation in Gjendebu

Breakfast, lunchbox, dinner
This hike begins along Lake Gjende before leading you steeply and exposed up to the ridge. When you reach the ridge you will have a beautiful view over the mountains by Lake Gjende. Milkmaids and farmers came over the mountains from Lom and Vågå with their cattle, sheep and goats and down Bukkelægret. Steep descent to Memurudalen, where you find your next accommodation in Memurubu.
If the weather is bad or you need a rest day it is possible to take the boat from Gjendebu to Memurubu (the cost for this is not included in the trip price).

Have you ever heard of the play "Peer Gynt" by Henrik Ibsen? This is the place, Gjendin-eggen, where Peer comes home to his mother and tells the story of the reindeer ride that went wrong. Besseggen is today one of Norway's most popular hiking trails. On a trip across the narrow, airy ridge there is a fantastic view over the majestic Jotunheimen. With the green Lake Gjende 400 meters straight down on one side and the deep blue Lake Bessvatnet on the other you will have an experience you will never forget. The steep part can be avoided, and for the entire journey it is possible to hike down by the lake or take the boat (the cost for this is not included in the trip price).
Accommodation in Gjendesheim
Breakfast
The journey ends after breakfast with a bus ride from Gjendesheim back to Oslo.
