Discover the "unspoiled Crete" through hiking trails that wind through wild flowers, lush valleys and dramatic gorges. Get to know the locals, taste Cretan delicacies at authentic tavernas and drink wine with the villagers. The journey takes you from the fertile agricultural areas of Apokoronas, over the impressive White Mountains, to the magnificent south coast with its famous gorges.
You start in Vamos, a charming village east of Chania, where you meet the locals at a kafeneion and get to taste a traditional raki. You stay in a beautifully restored house with views of the White Mountains and enjoy breakfast before the day's hike. On the south coast, spectacular gorges await, including Imbros and Aradhena, which give the hike both drama and magical views.

Accommodation in Vamos
Level and standard
Moderate to slightly challenging hikes along mostly well-marked trails, through varied terrain with mountains and coast. Daily stages are usually 4-7 hours. One day in Lefka Ori is more demanding, and the descent towards the coast is long. Around Chora Sfakion and Loutro there are shorter and longer alternatives.
Accommodation
You stay at small family-run hotels and guesthouses with a personal touch. All rooms have shower and toilet, and breakfast is included every morning. Lunch items are available in local shops; in Askifou the shop is 1 km away, and you can ask for a packed lunch or shop in Imbros.
