To walk Via degli Dei is to follow in the footsteps of the Romans between two of Italy's most mythical art cities. From Piazza Maggiore in Bologna to Piazza della Signoria in Florence, the trail goes over the rolling mountains of the Apennines, past fossil-rich cliffs, beech forests and small authentic Italian villages where time seems to have stopped. You walk on parts of the ancient Roman road Flaminia Militare, whose stone blocks still remain under your boots. Here history, nature and Italian joie de vivre meet with a view towards Brunelleschi's dome as a magnificent finale. A journey for you who want to experience Italy's sensual landscape along a slightly less well-trodden path.

Arrival on your own to Bologna. Stroll under the city's arcades, visit the seven churches of the Santo Stefano basilica and take in the view from Torre degli Asinelli. In the evening, Piazza Maggiore is magical in the evening light. Perhaps you'll start with a classic tagliatelle al ragù.
An easy-going but relatively physically demanding hike with several long stages and significant elevation differences. You walk mostly on trails and gravel roads, with shorter sections of asphalt. Some days can be shortened. Good fitness and experience with hilly terrain is recommended.
You stay at selected three- and four-star hotels in larger towns as well as at personal agriturismi and inns in the countryside. The rooms have private bathrooms and every morning a good Italian breakfast is served. Several accommodations are known for their food and genuine hospitality.
