Denmark is steeped in cycling culture, from everyday life to holidays, and on this trip you'll experience the country from an unusually varied side. Start in H.C. Andersen's Odense and pedal southward through Funen's green landscape to small islands, harbor towns and ferry crossings. Here, life has revolved around the sea for generations, and if you've read Carsten Jensen's We, the Drowned, the place grips you. Via Langeland, Lolland and Falster, the adventure continues to Møn, where the chalk-white cliffs at Møns Klint become an obvious highlight. Then the coast of Zealand awaits, Stevns Klint and medieval Køge before the bike paths lead all the way into Copenhagen - one of the world's most bike-friendly cities. Mostly flat, very Danish and with the sea as your companion - a true long-distance journey without any mountains to contend with.

Arrival on your own to Odense, Denmark's third largest city and birthplace of the country's perhaps most famous author, H.C. Andersen. The storyteller pops up here and there in the more than thousand-year-old city, so feel free to take the opportunity to stroll around the centre before the cycling adventure begins. Here you'll find, among other things, Sankt Knuds Kirke, one of Denmark's most important Gothic buildings and a memory from the city's prosperous medieval era. The day is free for sightseeing, dinner and charging up ahead of tomorrow's first stage.
Level and accommodation
Easy to moderately challenging cycling through a mainly flat Danish landscape. The cycling stages vary, which provides a bit of rest now and then, but the average distance is around 60 km per day. The surface consists mainly of cycle paths and quiet roads. Suitable for those who like full days in the saddle with pleasant pedaling instead of grueling hills.
Here you'll pamper yourself with really nice accommodations. The official standard is 3-4 stars but the quality is consistently high, pleasant and with lovely locations near town, greenery or water. A hearty breakfast is included every morning.
