Cycling on Rügen & Usedom

Island hopping, beaches and Hanseatic towns along the German Baltic coast

New

Two islands, two classic seaside resorts, and almost 200 kilometres by bike along the German Baltic coast. This trip takes you from the Hanseatic city of Stralsund across Rügen and on to Usedom, with long sandy beaches, beech forests, bathing jetties, and elegant turn-of-the-century villas along the way. You cycle comfortably long stages, while trains, steam locomotives, and ferries make island-hopping both smooth and fun. On Rügen, the seaside resorts of Binz, Sellin, and Göhren await, while on Usedom the route winds between coast and tranquil inland areas. A free day mid-week also gives you time for hiking on the Mönchgut peninsula – or simply a dip in the Baltic Sea.

7 Breakfasts included

Your cycling trip begins in Stralsund, whose well-preserved historic centre is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The city's heyday as an important trading hub is still visible in the stately brick buildings and the old town centre. Once you've checked in, the rest of the day is yours to explore. Take a stroll through the alleys and continue on towards the harbour and Hafeninsel. Here you'll find, among other things, the historic sailing ship Gorch Fock. A pleasant and fittingly maritime start to a week that will offer the best of the Baltic Sea.

Level and accommodation

Relatively easy cycling with an average of about 45 km per day. The route runs through pleasant terrain, but the loop around Lieper Winkel includes some slightly more demanding sections. The trip suits you if you have a normal to good basic fitness level.

Accommodation

You stay in a varied selection of comfortable accommodations. Here, small hotels and guesthouses in historic harbour settings are combined with modern city hotels and an unusually atmospheric historic accommodation in a lush setting on Usedom. Several accommodations have really good locations by the sea, the harbour, or close to the cycling route.
