Between the majestic peaks of the Alps in the north and the fragrant landscapes of Provence in the south, the Verdon Gorges spread out – Europe's largest canyon. Here dramatic mountains, deep ravines and limestone plateaus meet with lush forests and Mediterranean vegetation along the turquoise Verdon river, shaped by rushing water over millions of years.
On this hike we take you through pristine nature where ravines and rocky mountain villages create a breathtaking panorama. Picturesque villages like Rougon and Chasteuil line the trail and invite charming stops. The route varies between high-altitude trails with extensive views and trails at the bottom of the ravine, where the famous Sentier Martel lets you follow the same path as the one who first explored the canyon.
The best time to hike is in spring or autumn, when temperatures are pleasant – July and August can become very hot.
Note: this hike is not recommended for those with fear of heights.
