Châteauneuf-du-Pape is southern France's most prestigious wine town, located in the sunny Rhône Valley. The vineyards here have a rich history stretching back to the 14th century, when the popes brought vines to the area. The most famous grapes are Grenache and Syrah, which create the full-bodied and elegant wines that have made the village world-famous.
The best way to experience the vineyards is on foot. Let yourself be guided by a local wine expert during a half-day tour and enjoy delightful wine tastings among the rolling vineyards. Most days also offer the opportunity to visit different wineries and taste their unique vintages.
The hike also takes you to the hills above Gigondas, another iconic village known for its spicy, red wines. Here you are met with breathtaking views over the Rhône Valley and the magical landscape where wine and nature merge together.

You make your way to Avignon on your own. Avignon is a beautiful medieval city, with cobblestone streets and a long history. The city is part of UNESCO's World Heritage, was a papal city for almost a hundred years and here seven popes lived during the 14th century. Then it was a trading center on the route between Paris and northern Italy. Today the city is full of life and movement, it is elegant yet folksy. Meet your taxi at 4:30 PM at the train station for transfer to Chateauneuf du Pape.
Accommodation in Chateauneuf du Pape
The hikes follow good paths and trails in varied, often rocky terrain. The daily stages are relatively short and the pace comfortable. Some stages, especially over Dentelles towards Séguret, may be experienced as more hilly. The hikes are of moderate character; some hiking experience is recommended.
Standard accommodation includes a mix of bed & breakfasts and hotels of simple but pleasant character (2-3*).
In Charm accommodation, you enjoy carefully selected hotels with extra comfort and higher standard (3-4*).
