Hungary offers Central Europe at its most atmospheric. Budapest spreads out on both sides of the Danube, with grand boulevards, historic baths, lively neighborhoods and views from the heights of Buda. Outside the capital, a calmer landscape awaits, with small towns, promising vineyards and easy cycling routes along the Danube. Here, Central European history meets Hungarian joie de vivre, ideally over a hearty goulash, local wine or something sweet at a classic café. And as always: Hungary is best experienced at a leisurely pace, on foot or by bike.
