Wine Hiking in Burgundy

You travel on your own to our pleasant hotel in Dijon where check-in takes place during the afternoon. During a meeting with our representative you will receive roadbook, maps and other tourist information for the hike. Take the opportunity to take a walk and discover the charming city center where half-timbered houses and 19th-century facades alternate, or why not taste some of the regional delicacies? Besides mustard, Dijon is also known for classic French dishes like coq au vin and boeuf bourguignon.

In the morning a taxi will escort you to Marsannay-la-Côte. From Marsannay, a town known for its rosé wines (unique in the Burgundy region), you walk towards Fixey, where you will find a church from the 900s, the oldest in the region. You reach Gevrey-Chambertin, a wine town still guarded by an old, fortified castle.

Pass the village of Chambolle Musigny, at the beginning of a narrow valley, and go to one of the more famous places in Burgundy, the majestic Château de Clos Vougeot. A visit to the castle reveals a wine cellar from the 1100s and a gigantic wine press. Your path continues over Echezeaux and Grand Echezeaux vineyards and then takes you to holy ground and the heart of some of the world's greatest vineyards: La Romanée, Romanée-Conti, Richebourg and la Tâche.

Today's hike takes you uphill (after a morning transfer), past vineyard-covered slopes, to Hautes-Cotes de Nuits. The landscape is delightful, with beautiful views over the valley. Pass through the village of Villers-la-Faye, with its 1000s church on Mont Saint Victor, and then to Magny-les-Villers. As you descend into Côtes de Beaune you reach Pernant-Vergelesses and one of the most picturesque small villages in the area, Aloxe-Corton, known for white wines like CortonCharlemagne, one of the best in Burgundy. Your day ends in Beaune, a magical Burgundian town with medieval charm.

On the fifth day of the trip you get the opportunity to explore Beaune at your own pace. Stroll along the narrow streets, visit some of the many wine merchants and don't miss the fantastic medieval building that houses the hospice Hôtel-Dieu from 1443. Not far from the cozy city center is the small park Bouzaize, a popular excursion destination for leisurely French people.

Leave Beaune and walk through the first Premiers Crus vineyards, on your way to Pommard. This well-known village is tightly clustered around a church that is most remarkable for its square bell tower. The wines from the village, celebrated all over the world, are of outstanding quality, deeply colored, firm and honest. After passing over the last vineyard-covered hill you come down to Meursault, a beautiful village known for its white wines.

Make your way across the vineyards, to reach the villages of Blagny and Gamay and then pass through the forest that stretches over the heights of Côte de Beaune to La Rochepot - a village that boasts one of the most beautiful castles in Burgundy, dating from the 1400s. Go down to the village of Saint Aubin and its 1000s church, then wind your way through Grands Crus in Chassagne-Montrachet and Puligny-Montrachet, to the village of Puligny-Montrachet itself. Your last stage is through Les Grands Crus at Les Perriéres to Meursault.
