Day 1: Arrival in Porto

Arrival in Porto. Transfer from the airport by metro or private car if you choose it.

Day 2: City tour of Porto & visit to the wine cellars in Vila Nova de Gaia - 8 km, +250 m/-250 m

Porto is a city that is particularly well suited for "city walks", where you move from the wide pedestrian streets to a maze of narrow streets, stroll through the cobblestone squares or down medieval stairs towards the Douro. In addition to the architecture, it is Portuguese gastronomy that is at the center of this tour, with stops along the way at 6 emblematic places to taste some of the region's culinary specialties: sardines and green wine at Bolhao market, traditional pastries, monks and pies from Chaves. Finally, the wine cellars in Vila Nova de Gaia. A guided tour of a winery is inevitable and included, as well as a tasting of port wine.

Day 3: Train journey through the Douro Valley and visit to a vineyard - 3 km, +100 m/-100 m

For the next 3 nights you will stay in either Pinhão or Regua.

Pinhão: Private transfer to the magnificent São Bento station. The train (2h40) follows the banks of the Golden River to the village of Pinhão, which lies in a bend of the Douro. Check in at your accommodation and enjoy lunch in the city. Afternoon transfer to Tedo quinta. Walk through the vineyards and along the Tedo, a beautiful tributary of the Douro. The river's flow and the vine lines on the slopes create an enchanting landscape. Possibility to taste port wines from the quinta. Return by taxi to Pinhão.

Regua: Private transfer to the magnificent São Bento station. The train (2h10) travels along the banks of the Golden River to the capital of Alto Douro, Peso da Regua, which lies in a bend of the valley. Check in at your accommodation near the central train station. Enjoy lunch in the city. Afternoon transfer to Tedo quinta. Walk through the vineyards and along the Tedo, a beautiful tributary of the Douro. Possibility to taste the port wines. Return by taxi to Regua.

Day 4: Villages & terraces in the Pinhao Valley + boat trip on the Douro - 8 km, +50 m/-550 m

Pinhão: Transfer to the village of Provesende on the heights of the Pinhao valley for a walk along the centuries-old slate terraces where vines alternate with olive and orange groves. This is the Douro landscape in all its splendor, classified by UNESCO as a world heritage site. Possibility to visit Quinta de la Rosa and taste its wines, followed by a boat trip on the Douro to Tua, a tributary of the river. (approximately 2h cruise time)

Regua: Spectacular train journey (25 min) from Regua to Pinhão, whose small station is decorated with azulejos depicting the history of the vineyards. Private transfer (20 min) to the village of Provesende on the heights of the Pinhao valley where you can enjoy a walk along the centuries-old slate terraces where vines alternate with olive and orange groves. This is the Douro landscape in all its splendor, classified by UNESCO as a world heritage site. Possibility to visit Quinta de la Rosa and taste its wines, followed by a boat trip on the Douro to Tua, a tributary of the river. (approximately 2h cruise time). Return by train to Regua.

Day 5: Guided tour of the rock art site and Foz Coa museum - 1 hour, +100 m/-100 m

Train upstream to Pocinho (1h from Pinhão, 1h25 from Regua), a wilder and more robust stretch of the Douro. Meet with your guide in Pocinho for a guided tour of the Foz Cõas archaeological site. 4x4 vehicle followed by a guided walking tour to one of the rock art sites, where the large slate slabs with engravings are as stunning as the place where they have stood for 30,000 years. Additional visit to the museum and the town of Foz Cõa, known for its olives and almonds. Return by train to Pinhão (1h) or Regua (1h25).

Day 6: Hike through the Quinta Nova vineyard - 8 km, +350 m/-450 m

Pinhão: Transfer to Quinta Nova. Walk through this magnificent vineyard, whose slopes are reflected in the river. Among the vineyards, a granite stone bears witness to the demarcation and naming of port wines in the 18th century, when this quinta was built. Its coat of arms and chapel remind of its aristocratic origin. Possibility of visit (cellar and museum) and wine tasting, for an additional fee. From the small station in Ferrão, train (2h30) or private transfer (1h30) to Porto.

Regua: Train from Regua to the small station in Ferrão (20 min). A small road overlooking the Douro leads to Quinta Nova. Walk through this magnificent vineyard, whose slopes are reflected in the river. Among the vineyards, a granite stone bears witness to the demarcation and naming of port wines in the 18th century, when this quinta was built.
