Continuing towards Bolsena, you reach an ancient crater with spectacular views over Lake Bolsena before reaching the town.

Today's hike goes along a plain that separates Lake Bolsena and the Cimini Mountains. The open landscape gives you a fine overview of the countryside. You pass no settlements during the day, however several places where you can refill your water bottle. Today's destination is Viterbo which is a beautiful old town.

Today you have a longer hike ahead of you. You walk along the side of an old volcanic crater and former lake - Lago Vico. Continue along Etruscan countryside until you reach the small village of Capranica. From here you follow flowing water through a ravine. You finally reach Sutri.

The first part of today's route goes through open fields to the picturesque village of Monterosi from where you also reach the Monte Gelato waterfalls where you can rest and take a swim. Then you continue along a trail with panoramic views to Campagnano di Roma. You can shorten today's hike by pre-booking a morning transfer to Monterosi.

Today's excursion goes along the Roman countryside. The route is quite flat with gravel roads or country roads, with only one hill along the last section. You will need to cross a stream and this can be more difficult under special conditions with water flow. The hike can be shortened with local bus from La Storta.

After breakfast you set off for the final part of your modern pilgrimage along Via Francigena to Rome - the "eternal city". You can choose to reach Rome by public transport or walk your way to Rome. Part of the hike to the city goes through the Insugherata park, a beautiful nature reserve a few steps from the bustling city. As you approach the eternal city you can stop for a triumphant photograph at Monte Mario Belvedere. From here you can catch a glimpse of St. Peter's dome, before you walk down towards the city to finally reach Piazza San Pietro, your final destination and that of many pilgrims through the centuries.
If you want to maximize your time in Rome it is possible to skip most of today's walk by taking a local bus and train.
