Day 1: Arrival to Corbridge & overnight stay

Arrival to the charming market town of Corbridge with its picturesque square and the historic St Andrew's church. After check-in you can explore the town with its cafés and pubs.

Day 2: Corbridge to Cholleford - 17km, +240 m/-221 m. Accommodation in Cholleford

Breakfast

When you have left Corbridge you pass well-preserved Roman excavations where you can wander among ancient streets and buildings. Along the way there are several interesting stops including Hadrian's Wall.

Day 3: Cholleford to Once Brewed - 21km, +420 m/-255 m. Accommodation in Once Brewed

Breakfast

The day begins at Chesters Museum and continues along the old Roman road up towards Tower Tye. Soon you reach some of the most spectacular sections of Hadrian's Wall, so have your camera ready. The hike continues through a dramatic landscape filled with Roman ruins and ends at Steel Rigg and Peel Crags near Once Brewed. In the area you'll find the well-known Vindolanda Fort which is one of the trip's highlights.

Day 4: Once Brewed to Gilsland - 16km, +240 m/-335 m. Accommodation in Gilsland

Breakfast

The day begins with a climb up to Winshields Crags, the trail's highest point, where you are rewarded with magnificent views in all directions. This is one of the more demanding stages, but also one of the most rewarding with well-preserved parts of Hadrian's Wall.

The hike ends in the small village of Gilsland, where a local pub awaits for a well-deserved break and dinner.

Day 5: Gilsland to Bramton - 15km, +215 m/-245 m. Accommodation in Brampton / Lanercost.

Breakfast

From Gilsland you follow a well-preserved part of Hadrian's Wall to Birdoswald, before the trail continues through rolling countryside towards Newtown. This is an easier hiking day after previous more demanding stages.

At Haytongate you leave Hadrian's Wall Path and continue either to Brampton (about 5 km extra hiking), or take a taxi from Lanercost Priory for the last bit. Lanercost Priory is located about 1 km from the detour.
