Upon arrival in Sal, you're greeted by the island's open, sunny landscape and the constant nearness of the sea. Sal has been shaped by salt extraction for over a hundred years, but today it is Cape Verde's premier beach island. From the airport you'll be transferred to Santa Maria on the south coast, where you check in at your hotel and have the rest of the day free to settle into holiday mode. Perhaps a first stroll along the beach or a dip in the Atlantic.

Santa Maria's eight-kilometre-long beach is one of Cape Verde's most beautiful. The chalk-white sand meets turquoise and emerald-green shades, perfect for a day of total relaxation. For those who want to be active, there are plenty of options, such as surfing, kitesurfing and diving with local operators. You can also choose more nature- or culture-focused excursions, such as a full-day tour around Sal where you visit Pedra de Lume with its salt lakes, the famous Blue Eye, as well as traditional villages.
