From Munich you hike along the river Isar southward. Enjoy the last fantastic view over Munich before you hike through the forests along Isar. You then come to the monastery Schäftlarn with its inn and beer garden.

The day begins with a short transfer to Starnberg, Bavaria's well-known sailing and spa paradise. From Starnberg you hike via a ravine called 'Maisinger Schlucht' to Maisingersee, an idyllic lake surrounded by reeds and inviting beer gardens. Continue to Andechs monastery with fantastic views over Lake Ammersee. The hiking trail goes down to the shore of this beautiful lake, you then continue to Herrsching or by boat to Diessen.

The day starts with a lovely hike to Paterzeller Eibenwald, a forest with the largest yew population in Bavaria. You hike through Oderdinger Filz and the characteristic Bavarian countryside onward to Weilheim, a historic trading town. The next three days you pass through a region in southern Bavaria between the rivers Lech and Loisach called 'Pfaffenwinkel', which is known for its many pilgrimage churches.

You leave Weilheim and walk on Saint Jacob's Trail through the small monastery village Polling, onward to Peisenberg. Then the trail leads you to Hohe Peisenberg, from where you can enjoy a wonderful panoramic view over Zugspitze, Tyrol and the Allgäu mountains. A short train ride or a comfortable walk then takes you onward to Peiting.

You begin your hike through the Ammerschlucht gorge above the river to Rottenbuch, the capital of the Pfaffenwinkel region. On the Pfaffenwinkler Milchweg you walk through the village Wildsteig and continue to the Wieskirche church, a famous pilgrimage church that is also a UNESCO World Heritage site. Then you hike onward through the Wiesfilz moors to Steingaden. From there a short bus ride takes you to Halblech/Trauchgau.
