Hiking in Sardinia - Supramonte

8 days / 7 nights

7 Breakfasts, 5 Dinners included

Day 1: Arrival in Oliena

Dinner

Arrival at the airport in Cagliari or Alghero. You continue by local bus to Oliena, where you are met and driven by car up to your hotel, beautifully situated on Monte Corrasi. Unpack your hiking boots and get ready to discover Sardinia's untouched and idyllic landscape. Here await limestone mountains, vast views and a tranquility that feels far from everyday life. Relax with a glass of full-bodied Cannonau wine and crispy carasàu bread while you settle into the adventure.

Day 2: Hiking around Monte Corrasi

11 km, 825 m up/down

Breakfast, dinner

When you wake up and hike up towards the mountain plateau, it feels almost surreal how beautiful the landscape is. Before you, the white Supramonte mountains spread out, together with valleys that you will soon explore more closely.
The hike is not particularly difficult this first day. The trail is mostly well-trodden and well-marked and gradually ascends towards a plateau. You return via another route, which provides new perspectives on the dramatic landscape.

Day 3: Hiking to Dorgali

15-16 km, 395 m up, 990 m down

Breakfast, dinner

Today's hike takes you through beautiful forests of holm oak that cover the lower slopes of the impressive limestone massifs of Supramonte, which rise more than 800 meters above sea level. Along the way you get many magnificent views over the valleys around Oliena and Guthiddai. If you wish, you can make a detour up the steep and rocky trail Scala di Sovana to Punta Cusidore. Up on Supramonte's plateau you can search for the entrance to Grotta Orgoi. At the end of the hike you can continue another two kilometers to the mighty limestone spring Su Gologone. This narrow canyon is 108 meters deep and constitutes Sardinia's most important water source.

Day 4: Hiking to prehistoric Tiscali

11 km, 700 m up/down

Breakfast, dinner

A short transfer of about 15 minutes takes you to Rio Flumineddu. You begin the hike through the valley Scala de Surtana. A detour leads up to a limestone plateau where two beautifully restored shepherd's huts are located. Feel free to go in and admire the skillful building technique. You go back down into the valley and then begin the ascent towards Monte Tiscali. Near the summit you can visit the remains of a prehistoric nuraghe village that is hidden inside a cave. You step into the enormous round cavity created through erosion of the limestone – an almost surreal place, like an oasis in the mountain. After passing the forested ravine Surtana, the trail goes down towards the river Flumineddu, where you are picked up for a short transfer back to the hotel.

Day 5: Hiking through Su Gorropu or over Silana Pass

11-15 km, 320-340 m up, 180-690 m down

Breakfast, dinner

Today you choose between two hikes according to energy and interest:

Gola di Gorropu
Immerse yourself in Italy's deepest ravine, Gola di Gorropu, with its impressive, vertical white walls that rise more than 350 meters. It's a long but relatively easy hike to the ravine. Once there you can make your way between the enormous rock blocks and literally look into the earth's interior. Short transfer in the morning and afternoon to and from the starting point.
15 km, 340 m up, 180 m down

From Suttaterra to Dorgali
This route follows the mountain ridge from near the Silana pass all the way to the town of Dorgali. Along the way you are treated to magnificent coastal views over the Orosei bay and inland towards Supramonte. The hike is relatively easy without any major elevation differences. The trail is not marked but sufficiently well-trodden to be clear.
11 km, 320 m up, 690 m down

Day 6: Hiking to Cala Gonone

11 km, 485 m up, 960 m down

Breakfast

A short car transfer takes you just outside Dorgali where the hike begins through an old tunnel that connects Dorgali with Cala Gonone. The trail ascends towards the summit of Monte Bardia. From here follows a long and gradual descent, via several fantastic views over both valleys and coast.

Day 7: Hiking to Cala Luna

9-16 km, 405-570 m up, 405-950 m down

Breakfast

From Cala Gonone you can choose between several activities and hikes. There are various boat trips, for example to the double sea cave Bue Marina, which you also pass if you return from Cala Luna by boat. You can also visit the archaeological site Nuraghe Mannu or engage in diving, kayaking in crystal clear waters or fishing.

From Cuccuru su Corvu to Cala Gonone
Optional transfer to the starting point. You hike up to Sedda e s'Atta with extensive views over the bay. Then the trail goes down into a canyon filled with large, rounded rock blocks. You follow the riverbed to the magnificent beach Cala Luna, which can only be reached on foot or by boat. Take a refreshing dip and enjoy a picnic before continuing along the coastal trail back to Cala Gonone.
16 km, 570 m up, 950 m down

From Cala Gonone to Cala Luna
From the harbor in Cala Gonone you follow the coastal road to its end. At Cala Fuili begins the winding coastal trail that soon leads you to the beautiful beach Cala Luna. You can return the same way or take a boat back. The beach can only be reached on foot or by boat.
9 km, 405 m up/down

Day 8: Farewell to the hiking trip in Sardinia

Breakfast

The trip ends after breakfast. Book additional hotel nights if you wish or transport to any airport for the journey home.
