Hiking in Provence - Alpilles & Luberon

Arrival to St Remy on your own. Today there is the possibility of two different circular walks along "the Van Gogh Trail", why not add an extra night here to be able to explore the area properly.

You walk on a forest trail with panoramic views, which crosses the Alpilles and offers you spectacular vistas. The walk leads you down to the charming village of Mausanne. Here you can visit the famous Cornille mill from the 17th century where you can taste one of the best olive oils in Provence!

Today you walk in a loop towards Val d'Enfer to the elevated village of Les Baux de Provence. With its houses tightly packed together and perched on a steep cliff, it has earned its ranking among the most beautiful villages in France. You then continue through the olive groves back to the village of Maussane. After the walk, a transfer takes you to your accommodation in Arles.

Free day to discover Arles and its ancient treasures: the arenas, the amphitheater, the medieval streets and its market. In the afternoon you take the train from Arles to Isle sur la Sorgue (not included) with your luggage.

After breakfast, a transfer takes you to Lacoste where you begin today's walk. The medieval streets of Lacoste are well worth a look before you continue to Bonnieux, another gem in the Luberon, one of the villages featured in Peter Mayle's A Year in Provence. Beyond Bonnieux you walk on country roads and trails and pass several "bories" before you reach the point that divides the Luberon into two distinct mountains. In Grand Luberon you walk along lavender fields before you reach the castle of Buoux, and the village of Buoux itself. Today's walk ends with a spectacular descent to Auberge des Seguins, an otherworldly place hidden in the depths of the Aiguebrun gorge.

Walk at the foot of the Aiguebrun gorge, the only permanent river in the Luberon mountains, with its massive limestone walls and lush vegetation. You climb out of the canyon to reach the lost village of Sivergues before you cross Aiguebrun and climb up to the Claparèdes plateau, with its lavender fields and truffle oak plantations. Shortly after, you arrive at the medieval village of Saignon and the ruins of its three castles.
