Hiking in Gorges du Tarn

You make your way to Le Rozier on your own and check in at your hotel. Located at the gates of the Gorges Tarn and Jonte, at the confluence of the two rivers, the village bears its name from the rose bush harvests of the monks of Abbey of Aniane who built Saint-Sauveur church in 1705. Today only the church remains of the monastery. Opposite Le Rozier, on the other side of the Jonte river, lies the village of Peyreleau, which is located in Aveyron, the starting point for Causse Noir. The village is dominated by an old tower, the last remnant of the old fortified castle.

You begin the day with one of the most beautiful hikes in Lozère. The start is quite sporty, with a pleasant climb to reach Causse Méjan. But what a spectacular view! First you see the Corniches of the Gorges du Tarn, with kayak paddlers and swimmers far below. Then the Corniches de la Jonte and their mineral sculptures. This is the hike with the longest horizontal stretch (almost 20 km). It begins in a forest environment and then takes place on the Causse and among pastures. An unmissable visit to the famous Aven Armand, an enormous natural cave discovered in 1897. The stage ends with a descent into the valley, in Meyrueis. The day begins with a taxi transfer to Sainte-Eminie. Don't miss the opportunity to visit one of the most beautiful villages in France: Saint-Enimie. It is in the heart of the gorge. We recommend that you walk around the narrow streets, paved with Tarn stones, and discover the old houses and small restored squares that give the village a medieval atmosphere. Today's hike is a short walk to La Malène along the balcony trail high above the Tarn river with fine views over the cliffs. Pass through the village of Saint-Chely-du-Tarn where you can take a break. Continue to the village of Hauterives before joining La Malène, a charming village on the banks of the Tarn, take a stroll through the narrow streets towards the Romanesque church from the 12th century.

Leave your hiking boots on and enjoy a day in a canoe (or kayak). This trip from La Malène is undoubtedly the most spectacular and beautiful with the crossing of the famous "Détroits", the narrowest part of the Gorges du Tarn. You paddle along the enormous cliffs, then discover the typical village of La Croze on the right bank, before entering the majestic Cirque des Baumes. Further on you come to "Pas de Soucy", another remarkable site, this is where you disembark. You will have about 2 km left on foot to reach Les Vignes for the night.

Begin the stage and climb up onto the Causse, the sunny side of the Tarn valley. After Saint-Rome-de-Dolan, the route crosses the Causse and its pine forests to reach the balcony of the Tarn. 500 - 600 m high separates you from the river, a landscape of green canyon and colorful cliffs. Descent through Cirque de Saint-Marcellin and Eglazines, sheltering surprising old troglodyte dwellings before arriving at Le Rozier, at the confluence with the Jonte.
